At least 225 Rappahannock elementary school pupils are learning the ropes for next week’s Jump Rope for Heart, scheduled from 912 Thursday and Friday in the elementary school gym.

Organizer Teresa McLawhom, physical education teacher at the school, says this is the third year she has planned the popular event. Last year the rope jumping attracted nearly 200 children, McLawhom said, so many that she decided to break the group into two grade units this year. On Thursday pupils in grades 4-5 will participate, on Friday, grades 6-7. McLawhom said the gym is too small to accommodate so many children all at the same time and the event can’t wait for better weather since it coincides with the annual Heart Fund drive.
