he’s so old and creaky,” Diane reported. “He barks ail night. Let him outside and he rolls around on the ground. He jumps up and down and wants someone to play with him ALL THE TIME. The more active Bert is, the more snow we’re going to get. He’s never been wrong.”
Last February, the storm that dumped 30 inches on the county caught most Rappahannock residents by surprise. Not so the Pendleton family. “The weather forecasters said we were going to get just a dusting but Bert was going absolutely insane! We knew. We made sure the kitchen shelves were stocked and we got all the wood up to the house. We were ready!” recalled Diane.
Conversely, the Pendletons have been blase in the face of forecasts for heavy snows this winter. “Bert’s been calling for snow right along with the weatherman but the only difference is that he’s been telling us it wouldn’t be anything substantial.” And ol’ Bert, the bear, has been right on the flake every time.
