Board Meets In Executive Session
Rappahannock's Board of Supervisors met in executive session October 5 following a public meeting to take input on the county’s compliance with federal guidelines in regard to the handicapped. The purpose of the executive session was different, though: Supervisors needed to discuss further potential litigation in regard to inadequate animal-shelter futilities in the county.
The board received October 1 a petition filed in circuit court that requires the supervisors to respond within 21 days of their plans to comply with state animal-welfare laws. The board announced Otiober 1 appropriation of $8,000 to upgrade the county’s present animal-shelter facilities as a temporary measure.
Following the executive session, no public statement was issued by the supervisors.
In related activity, supervisors approved a new dog-tag ordinance, which will go into effect November 1. The ordinance changes to $6 the . foe dog owners will be charged for each dog age six months and up. Fees * presently range between $3 and $10. Revised fees for kennel owners also will go into effect an that date: Up to 20 dogs, $15; 21 to 50 dogs, $25; 51 dogs or more, $40. In accordance with state law, guide dogs and seeingeye dog owners are exempt from paying the fees.
