Each day 60,000 children die of hunger. This is as many people as the number of Americans killed in the Viet Nam war.
This year Save the Children, the group to whom the proceeds from this ' weekend’s "Concert to End Hunger” , will be donated, marks its 62nd year of continuous service to children. Begun in the bleak Depression days of 1932 to ' help children of Southern Appalachia, the agency has grown into a worldwide organization that provides technical and financial assistance to impoverished communities throughout the world.

"Quartet for the
End of Time”
Olivier Messiaen, the French composer of the "Quartet for the End of Time,” created the piece of music while he was starving in a Nazi prison camp.
"It’s a unique piece,” says Jody Gatwood, the violinist who will perform this weekend at the Gay Street Theatre as a benefit for world hunger. "Messiaen wasn’t observing hunger— be wxu hungry. The music seems to capture the experience of hunger.”
