Like the hours one can lose in grandma’s attic, Zale says looking through the years of fashion provides a release and is just plain “Ain to do.” Moreover, she says, it’s affordable fun for teens, too, who will find prices beginning at $3.
Antique dothing isn’t the primary business at Zale’s shop, however, where the real “bread and butter” is her upholstering services. The clothing is something that keeps growing, though, mainly due to Zale’s own love of fashion. For 10 years, Zale says she was employed as a costumer; at one time she traveled with a rock band, preparing their attire for each performance.
Today, Zale settles into more mundane offshoots of her profession. Her zest for her work, though, remains undauntable. Most recently, she has begun a new product line - Alton mattresses - and she teaches a course in furniture design, construction and upholstery at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun campus.
