Why Low-level Flying?
The immense firepower capabilities of today’s fighters can only be put to use if the pilot makes it to the target. Being subsonic aircraft makes the A-7 and A-6 vulnerable anti-aircraft fire and surface-to-air missiles.
The tactic offering the best protection from groundfire is to avoid detection by flying under the enemy’s radar.
