School Lunch Week
“School Lunch: America’s No. 1 Energy Source,” is the theme again this year for National School Lunch Week to be observed October 16-19. For 1984, special emphasis for National School Lunch Week is “Champions of Nutrition.” This subtheme places emphasis on complete fitness. .
School lunch really is a powerful program and indeed, the wave of the fiiture, according to Judith N. Burke, Food Service Director. Proclaiming this year the 22nd year of National School Lunch Week the American School Food Service Association has planned a menu to be served to approximately 26 million students across the nation. The menu will feature spaghetti with beef and cheese sauce, tossed salad with dressing, sliced peaches, homemade roll, homemade roll with butter, choice of milk.
Governor Robb has officially recognized this week as Virginia School Lunch Week. The Virginia School Food Service Association will celebrate with a special menu consisting of hot dog on bun, french fries, apple wedge, cole slaw, choice of milk. Throughout Virginia, school lunch cafeterias will promote special activities encouraging student involvement, invite special guests to lunch and generally have a festive National School Lunch Week.
