• Apply Now For Fuel Assistance

The Rappahannock Department of Social Services now is taking applications for fuel assistance. Applications will be accepted through Feb' ruary 28,1966, or until funds are depleted.

The county received an ample amount of money, and department personnel anticipate no problems for those who are eligible. Eligibility for assistance is based on a household’s gross income, and the number of people in a household.

The eligibility scale starts at an income of less than $6,226 for a family of one person. A family of four would be eligible if the income for the household is less than $13,464, and a family of five would have to have an income of less than $16,873.

Households must verify the income of all members, and will need to verify cash resources such as savings or checking accounts. Limits for cash resources are $1,600 for households with no members age 60 and over or with disabled members.

The maximum amount of benefits in the fuel assistance program is $422 for the season. This program was not designed to meet total household fuel costs, but only to help with the rising costs of home energy.

Households also may be eligible to receive up to $200 to help pay for repairs or replacement of unsafe or inoperable heating equipment. All applications will be processed within 30 days.
