Ms. Hatch said she was pleased when an earlier proposed zoning map showed proposed downzoning of the tract, but disappointed by a Rappahannock News report that stated all commercial properties in the county would retain commercial status.
“(It) remains a mistake waiting to happen,” John Clark said, referring to the battle residents waged earlier in the year to thwart development of a home for adults on the property.
Clark passed a petition calling for downzoning of the former ski lodge property to the planning commissioners. He said “practically every person in Harris Hollow” had signed.
Gene Leggett said a “great wave of belief’ in county officials occurred following defeat of the home for adults. He added, however, that the long-term threat of possible pollution of Rush River and the Town of Washington’s water supply remains.
