He said a landfill in Rappahannock would be a “small-scale’’ operation, possibly in the style of a ground sQo, neatly contained. Supervisor Lane also said he’d be quick to respond to resident concerns should problems arise.
In other activity at the November & meeting, the board:
•Delayed action on scenic river. The board did not endorse a proposal calling for establishment of state scenic river status for the Upper Rappahannock. The reason: The supervisors want more time to draft a resolution to document their concerns for the rights of people who own property dong the river.
Two people who said they ownedi property in Rappahannock bordering the Upper Rappahannock endorsed the scenic river propos&Other residents, some hoping for sangir status for the Rush River, also encouraged the supervisors to endorse the concept.
John Heerwald of the state division of paries and recreation said the proposal was begun by Friends of the Rappahannock, an organization comprising some landowners along the river.
Heerwald detailed how the designation could help to protect the scenic qualities of the Rappahannock. He said scenic river status would insure public review locally before any plans could be approved that may alter the scenic nature of the river. Scenic river status also would prohibit construction that would alter the natural flow of the river pending authorization by the General Assembly, Heerwald said. The Concept would take no rights away from property owners nor would it grant any additional rights to recreationists beyond those already eiyoyed by both, he said.
The board asked Robert Dennis, a landowner on the Upper Rappahannock and supporter of the concept, to consult another property owner along the river and outline a resolution, which could impact actual legislation later on. Dennis agreed to help. The board again will consider endorsing the concept during its December 3 meet
