MIDDLETOWN, VIRGINIA - Hie first Ranee Lee Spellman Memorial Award will be made early next year, Lord Fairfax Community College President William H. McCoy announced today. "Gifts totaling $10,000 have been received from the Ranee Spellman Estate and several private donors to provide the annual award dedicated to agricultural programs and students at the College,” McCoy explained.
Hie Memorial Fund to honor the late farm foreman of Points of View Farm in Flint Hill who died on November 9, 1982, was established a year ago by Spellman’s employer and farm owner, Patricia Saltonstall, to encourage the development and recognition of farming skills and support services. "The Fund is a fitting memorial for Ranee Lee Spellman,” Saltonstall said, "because he was committed to the preservation of farming and its essential skills throughout his life. To provide an opportunity for others seeking to develop the broad range of skills necessary to achieve success and accomplishment in this field is the way he would most like to be remembered.”
The Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation assumed ... the management of the Memorial Fund to provide a broader base of learning opportunities -for the potential recipients.
