1, in an effort to raise the $5,000, the Amissville volunteers will hold a benefit dinner and a give-away of a videocassette recorder on December 1. Tickets for the give-away and the dinner are currently on sale by members of the fire department.
The department will hold dances on November 10 and December 15 to help raise money. A committee has been appointed to organize a cake-walk and information on this will be made available to the public as soon as the date has been set.
The Department needs $2,500 and ten volunteers to conduct a fund raising event one night per week. Any community members who would like to donate one evening per week in order to help the Department may contact Paul Poling at 937-A205.
Hie Department receives no public funds from Rappahannock County while the County of Culpeper contributed $3,000 to the Department this year. Public support of the activities of the Fire Department will be necessary if it is to continue to operate.
If the Department does not raise the needed money, some of its equipment will have to be put out of service. Lack of funds would also mean that when equipment breaks down that the Department will not be able to have repairs made. All of this would mean a lower level of service to the community.
“It’s really bad,” said Adrian Butler, a junior member of the Department. “I hope that this fund drive cooes through for us.” Any contributions would be appreciated, and should be mailed to the Amiss ville Volunteer Fine Department and Emergency Medical Service, P.O.
