district in Hampton District. The public hearing will take place December 3, at the courthouse, during the supervisors’ monthly meeting.

•Tax refund. The board motioned to refund $195.01 in overpayed taxes to a property owner in Stonewall-Hawthome District. The person contacted the board when he discovered after a survey that he’d been paying taxes for years on 77 acres, rather than 54VS>. The refund goes back three years, according to the statute of limitations, Commonwealth Attorney Luke said.

•Maintenance service. The board authorized Clerk Diane Bruce to advertise for a maintenance person to complete “little repairs” as they arise at the courthouse complex.

Cleric Bruce said the sheriff had been helpful with much of the minor work by assigning prisoners to complete it, but there still was a need from time to time for someone capable of doing plumbing and electrical work on an on-call basis. Once selected, the person will be paid an hourly wage for work completed.

•Fees waived. The board reviewed a letter from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department requesting that an $80 building-inspection fee be waived. The volunteers recently broke ground for an addition to their fire hall. The board voted unanimously to waive the inspection fee.
