Supervisor Lane said that section of the ordinance would protect the county from anything dangerous being brought in and dumped, which would then make the hazardous material the responsibility of the county.
Supervisor Lane restated his belief that the county should establish a system of rewards for citizens who help - crackdown on violators. He added that . the ordinance allowed non residents to use the dumpsters provided the trash originated in the county.
Supervisor Charles “Pete” Estes ^ said the county was hoping to stop ma* jor abuses at dumpster sites on or near the county line. Tfeerd, he said, non residents dump pidcop-truck loads of trash — and Rappahannock residents pick up the tab. “Wirte not shooting for anyone with a small container of trash,” Supervisor Estes said.
Basically, the trash ordinance remains the same: Trash can be deposited only in dumpsters or sanitary landfills; no hazardous wastes, brush or dead animals can be disposed of in dumpsters. Paper trash now is okay, bringing the ordinance into compliance . with state code. It is hoped, however, that residents will continue to burn as much paper trash as possible.
