Metro Hoepitalg
Not As Busy
Are people healthier? Or are hospitals treating patients faster? Whatever the cause, the diagnosis for Washington area hospitals is “decreased utilization.”
And that could mean higher costs for patients.
Since 1963, hospital use has steadily decreased, according to a Health Cue Advisory Board report delivered Monday to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
The average metropolitan area hospital occupancy rate stands at 73.7 percent, down from 78.9 percent in early 1982. The recommended occupancy rate is 86 percent.
