Other major concerns were the rapid decline of propery value which this cancerous blight would cause and the ultimate destruction of natural habitat. Other concerns were the extra hazards of heavier equipment on our already inadeqaute roadways and bridges, the ever present dangers of illegal toxic waste dumpers such as those who polluted sites throughout the States, including the one at Luray just 14 miles away, are other hazards.
There are examples all over the United States where landfills and dumps have not worked as proposed: Luray, Lorton, Blue Plains treatment facility, Love Canal, and the salt vaults in the Midwest. These are extreme cases, true.
But these are the results even after the strictest policing and monitoring by the best agencies.
