Fruit School Upcoming
The Madison-Rappahannock area fruit school will be held at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Va. on February 20. For more information and a copy of the schedule, call the Extension Office at 675-3619.
Swinging Country Dance
There will be a Swinging Country Dance to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 15 at 8 p.m. in the Sperryville Fire Hall.
Tom Bledsoe and Rich Kirby who are among the country’s leading performers of southern mountain music, will be wailing on fiddles, banjos, mandolins and harps in the old time tradition of country dancing. Everyone’s invited to join in the rounds, squares, lines and country swing. Families are welcome.
Admission is $4.00 for RAAC members, $4.50 for others, and $2.00 for students and seniors. This event is sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC). For information call 675-3193.
Book Discussion At Library
“Growing Up in the South,” a five part book discussion series opens at the Library Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Suzanne Jones of the University of Richmond as Keynote speaker.
The program is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and is free to the public. Registration will begin of February 11 when brochures will be mailed.
Eudora Welty’s memoir One Writer’s Beginnings is recommended reading before the first lecture. This and the other four books may be borrowed from the Library now, and paperbacks of the others-will be for sale at the Library by mid-February.
Trip To Charles Town Races
Fauquier County Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a trip by chartered bus to Charles Town Races on Friday, March 8. The bus will leave from Fauquier High School at 5 p.m. and will return to Fauquier High at approximately 12:30 a.m. Cost of the trip is $20 which includes bus transportation, Clubhouse admission, racing program, seating in the Skyline Terrace dining room where you can watch the horse races from your table, full course sirloin tip dinner, gratuities, a door prize and complimentary clubhouse tickets for a return visit. Registration deadline is March 1 and registration is limited to the first 38 to register and pay at the Parks and Recreation Office, 14 Main Street, Warrenton. For more information call 347-8630.
