The Executive Board of the Hospice of the Rapidan has appointed Lorraine F. Robson as its new executive director. Robson succeeds Pat Bankhead, founder of the local organization, and its president and director since 1982.
Robson was a resident of Paterson, New Jersey until coming to the Rapphannock/Culpeper area in May of 1984. She was employed in New York City as head bookkeeper and department head before retiring in May. She and her husband, Eugene, a retired attorney, have opened a bed and breakfast on Route 707, Slate Mills Road in Rappahannock County. Robson was active in many local and national organizations while living in Paterson, and brings with her the skills needed in supervising a successful volunteer organization.
Lorraine and Gene Robson began visiting the Rappahannock/Culpeper area six years ago, following the death of her son to leukemia. In 1982, the Robsons began to discuss retirement, and their choice of location was the Virginia countryside. In October of 1984, she took the hospice training course in Madison, and assumed the responsibilities of Hospice of the Rapidan on January 2 of this year.
The hospice office has relocated to its new quarters at 126 South Main Street, second floor in Culpeper, and is staffed by volunteers daily from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The office telephone is answered on a 24 hour schedule, and clients may call at any hour for assistance.
