Centel Corporation, parent company of Central Telephone Company of Virginia, has reported that its 1384 earnings rose seven percent to $4.42 per share from the year-earlier $4.12 per share. Net income increased nine percent to $123.4 million from $113.3 million on revenues and sales of $1.37 billion, up eight percent from $1.27 billion.

Fourth quarter earnings increased four percent to $29.3 million, or $1.05 per share, from $28 million, or $1.01 per share, in the same 1983 period. Revenues and sales were $343.7 million compared with $341.7 million*,

Robert P. Reuss, chairman and chief executive officer, said the company’s telephone, communications and electric groups all showed earnings gains in the final 1984 quarter.

Customer line growth in Centel’s 10-state telephone operations rose four percent year-to-year, while long distance messages billed increased 8.9 percent. Both measures exceeded 1983 growth rates.

The company said construction is well along on the first two cellular mobile telephone systems in which it is a managing partner. Cellular service is expected to be introduced in Omaha, Neb., in April, and available in Greens
