hearings that he’d been to. Guest also said that the General Assembly would be no more ready for an advisory referendum bill next year than it was this year. Asked why an advisory referendum was considered meaningless, Guest said because a poll could perform the same task without legislation.
Frazier said that he thought an advisory referendum could help to “end all the controversy” by letting the voice of the people be heard.
Planning Commissioner Newbill Miller, when asked why he thought so many people signed the petition opposing the proposed zoning ordinance, replied “I think people have been presented improper information.” He
said that people have been misled. “Many little things that they (RPAC) said you can’t do, you actually can do.”
Miller also thought it was a mistake for the county to mix referenda in its politics, arguing that Rappahannock should rely on its representatives to govern. He said that the election of representatives every four years is a sufficient poll.
