What began as a dream in 1979 was realized Saturday, February 9 as , Wakefield School in Huntly dedicated its new gymnasium. It was in 1979 that the trustees of the school voted to build a gymnasium, but four more years passed before headmaster William E. Lynn, Jr. presided over ground-breaking ceremonies for the new facility that had been expanded to include classrooms, labs and a library to accommodate the growing enrollment.
The dedication ceremonies began with the Invocation by Reverend Maurice du Castillon of St. Peter’s Mission in Washington, Va. Lynn then welcomed the guests including Seton Hall School, against whom the afternoon’s basketball game would be played. Athletic Director Hunt Harris noted that Seton Hall was an appropriate opponent for the day as Wakefield’s basketball team had played their first game ever against Seton Hall in 1982.
