tern as we have known it here in the United States. Without them, and without the successive waves of eager immigrant peoples who built the country, American free-market capitalism would not be what it is.
Even given the great economic success of this free enterprise system, and the stimulus it provides individuals to create and build and succeed, it’s an unfortunate oversimlification to glorify the economic system for its certain successes, and to damn government of the people, which should be the true expression of the populace, and through its leaders from the people, should be the inspiration for all to achieve individual and collective greatness at home and abroad.
I do believe that many government excesses and misguided policies have been, and will continue to be, exposed and changed. The greatness of our constitutional political system makes this possible. The government also must take leadership in controlling and correcting the not infrequent excesses of the private sector, which is too often without a better sense of morality because of this same preaching of the glory and supremacy of free enterprise capitalism that we have been talking about.
Such ideas sometimes assume the proportions of a crusade of sorts, and we see that happening now. There needs to be a continuing dialogue on these points.
