or people looking for a weekend home >r a permanent home for their property within a 50 mile radius of Rappahannock. “I give the clients all of the history I can find on each cabin, which has caused me to learn a lot about Virginia history,” Robinson said. “The cabin’s history also gives the owners something to talk about and tell their friends about.” Once a cabin is sold, Robinson and his four employees begin the task of moving and rebuilding.
The cabins are moved piece by piece from their original location to the client’s property. The hand-hewn logs are usually chestnut and oak wood, and are generally 100 years old. All of the logs and stones are numbered before they are removed so that reassembly of the original cabin is guaranteed. The cabin is re-built with a poly-foam insulation between the logs, and the clients can choose between a masonry or a flexible chinking to cover the insulation.
Robinson uses all vintage pine that can only be obtained by taking it out of old buildings for the floors, doors and other wood needs of the cabins. All of the work is done by Robinson, Stan Wilder, Allen Steel, Peggy Herzig and Dennis Hamilton. The hand forged iron
