To the editor:
The editor’s interview with Mr. Viguerie was certainly interesting and should he be nominated for lieutenant governor, it will make for challenging debates this fall.
There are many areas one can agree or disagree with Mr. Viguerie, but I would like to address just one area that continuously baffles me when I listen to the new right rhetoric. May I quote Mr. Viguerie, “Government doesn’t produce anything. We need to get Government basically out of the way.” But in almost the same breath he wants the government involved in our most intimate thoughts and actions of our lives. He wants prayers in public schools. If religious freedom is to endure in America, the responsibility for teaching religion to public school children must be left to the homes and churches or our land where this responsibility rightfully belongs.
