Major Farm Conference
United States Senators Paui Trible and John Warner announced recently they will hold a farm conference, April 1 to hear Virginia’s farmer’s comment on proposed farm legislation.
“This conference will feature a broad spectrum of farm interests and knowing what Virginia’s farmers are thinking will enable us to better shape the 1985 farm bill,” Trible and Warner said.
“It is time to consider the future direction of our farm programs, and this task deserves our best efforts. ”
The farm conference will be held at 10 a.m. on April 1, in the General Assembly Room B at the State Capitol. The public is invited to attend the conference.

• Book Discussion At Library
The autobiography of distinguished black author Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, will be the subject of the second program in the book discussion series, “Growing Up in the South,” to be held on Monday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Library. The book is an autobiography of Angelou’s childhood. Cheryl Staunton of Mary Washington College will be the speaker.
Dates for future Monday evening book discussions are April 8: Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers, April 22: A Childhood: The Biography of a Place by Harry Crews, May 6: A Death in the Family by James Agee.
The series is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and is free to the public. Books are available for loan or sale at the library.
• ‘Outstanding Virginian’ Named
J. Kenneth Robinson of Winchester, retired Seventh District Congressman, will be the 1985 recipient of the Outstanding Virginian Award at ceremonies on May 11 at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center near Front Royal. Previous recipients include former Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr. and former U. S. Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr.
A Frederick County native, Congressman Robinson served seven terms — distinguishing himself as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and second ranking minority member of its Subcommittees on Agriculture and Defense. He was also the ranking minority member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He was chosen this year’s Outstanding Virginian for his dedication and leadership in making a significant contribution to Virginia.
