When asked about suicide, we (many of us) often cringe slightly and say we don’t understand it, as if it were terribly bizarre and alien to us. Is this really true? Perhaps we are more familiar with the frame of mind that breeds suicide than we let on - even to ourselves.
Suicide is closely associated with a feeling that all of us know quite well: depression. Granted, the suicidal person experiences an extreme form of depression, but surely with the aid of experience or imagination we can fathom what it means to be deeply depressed.
