COIN TELEPHONE SERVICE
The Virginia State Corporation Commission has initiated an investigation to consider whether it is lawful and in the public interest to authorize private pay telephone service whereby persons other than the local telephone companies could offer coin or pay telephone service. The Commission has identified issues concerning the economic impact such service might have upon telephone companies and on their customers, concerning the quality of service that would have to be maintained by such service, and concerning tariff and legal questions of such service.
