Besides teaching about 40 students in Rappahannock, Howard teaches in Jeffersonton, in Manassas and she also gives private lessons. “I want to start a class in Culpeper, too,” Howard said. Her Rappahannock students will give a recital in June.
Howard’s energy and dedication to dance has already begun to be noticed. When she was 15, Howard choreographed a dance and she called it, “Spirit of a Dancer”. She began entering pageants and performing her dance, and she won such titles as Miss Virginia, Miss Virginia Teen Talent, Miss U.S. Teen Talent 1984 and she won the East Coast Regional pageant.
In all, Howard has eight titles and in the only two pageants she did not win she was named first runner-up. “I’ll probably continue with the pageants for the experience of performing for audiences,” Howard said.
