When entries closed Monday, six horses were listed to contest this Simile timber race. Heading the field are Hamilton resident Dr. Joseph M. Rogers’ two Virginia Gold Cup winners, Private Gary (1983) and Constantine (1984).
Paul B. Cramer Jr.’s Cookin ’N Lookin heads a field of nine for the owner-rider timber race. The retired commercial airline pilot from Marshallhas won all three times he has raced this season.
The ladies timber follows the owner-rider race and with 10 entries this should be an exciting race. Patti Cassel of Waterford has entered her two-time winner Splashy Lea who will most likely have a tough race against Juliet Graham on Randy Waterman’s Vulgan’s Heir, winner of the open timber race at Blue Ridge.
Admission to the races, which begin at 1:30 p.m. is free to the public.
