Seated at the table are Jesse Pond (permanent chairman) and Edith Pond (permanent secretary). The approximately 40 people present heard speeches on behalf of the other candidates. The candidates are: Stanford Parris, seeking the nomination for governor; Wyette Durrette, governor; Marshall Coleman, lieutenant governor; Arthur Giesen, lieutenant governor; John Chichester, lieutenant governor; Reverend Maurice Dawkins, lieutenant governor; Richard Viguerie, lieutenant governor; Buster O’Brien, attorney general; and Raymond “Andy” Guest, state assemblyman. Ten delegates to the state Republican convention were selected to represent Rappahannock’s Republicans, and five delegates were selected for the 31st Legislative District convention.
