During the business session, Mrs. Edgar Puryear, chairman of Jameson Day activities and Mrs. Dale Metzinger told of plans for this memorable day which is May 14.
The Jameson stones will be moved from the Smith farm to the Culpeper Masonic cemetery. A bronze plaque honoring Lt. David Jameson and his wife and Lt. Col. John Jameson is being secured and this will be unveiled and dedicated May 14. Both of these men were organizing members of the Culpeper Minute Men Division and were active participants of the American Revolution. Mrs. Walter Huey King, NSDAR President General, who is a direct descendant of David Jameson and wife will attend this May 14 ceremony.
This activity will be followed by a luncheon at Lake of the Woods, at which time Mrs. King will be guest speaker.
Mrs. Woodruff Kearns announced that $167 had been donated by chapter members for the renovation of the Statue of Liberty.
Mrs. William H. Wetsel, in giving her report on the American History Essay contest listed the following winners: fifth grade, Timmy Andreae and Detra Funk of Wakefield School; sixth grade, Lewis Martin of Wakefield; seventh grade, Dorothy Elaine Rink’er of Rappahannock Elementary School.
The topics were: Statue of Liberty and Contribution of Blacks and Other Patriots during the American Revolution.
Mrs. Metzinger urged chapter members to attend the Virginia luncheon to be held in Hotel Washington, April 16 which is during the session of the National Continental Congress April 15-19.
Two applicants for membership were presented by Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, membership chairman.
The April 2 meeting will be held at Malvern in Madison with a program on “HATS.”
