schedule of 20 hours of instruction and four hours of shooting on the range. Friday evening was basically an introduction to all of the shooting sports, archery, rifle and shotgun. Chief instructor, Bill Christy of Blacksburg is employed by Virginia Tech. As a fulltime professional 4-Her, he travels all across the country training volunteer leaders to work more effectively with our kids. Bill makes every effort to communicate his dedication to all his students, and his love of kids.
After a marathon session Friday, lasting well past 11 p.m., we all found it a little hard to roll out at 6 a.m. Saturday. Well-fed and at least five gallons of coffee later, we convened in class at 8 a.m. for the real meat of shotgunning. Bill and his staff really know how to teach and after lunch and copious quantities of coffee, we were to find out just how much we had retained.
We used the coach-student method, whereby one of us tried to teach the other howr to shoot the shotgun. Boy, talk about the blind leading the blind!
