Diabetes Tests
The Rappahannock Lions Club is sponsoring diabetes tests to be conducted at the Rappahannock Medical Center beginning April 9. The test will be free and is for people age 18 and over.
Tests will be by appointment and will involve a prick of the finger. It is important that the person to be tested does not eat before the test, and for that reason it is recommended that the appointment be made in the mornings. Appointments may be made by calling or coming by the Clinic.
Diabetes is a disorder caused by an insulin deficiency, which prevents the body from using sugar for energy. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, decreases life expectancy by approximately one-third and 50 percent of diabetics do not know they have the disease.
The tests will be free, but if diabetes is diagnosed, any treatment will have to be paid for.
• Guest Seeks Reelection
Delegate Raymond R. “Andy” Guest, Jr. announced recently that he would seek his party’s nomination and run for reelection to the House of Delegates. Guest, a Warren County farmer, said that the Republican nominating convention for the 31st House Legislative District - which includes Rappahannock - would be held in Clarke County at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11th.
During his 14 years in the House of Delegates Guest has come to be the senior Republican on the Committees for Agriculture, Finance, Conservation and Natural Resources and Roads and Internal Navigation.
Speaking of his seniority Guest said, “seniority in itself will not guarantee results. It is the experience afforded by seniority that teaches a legislator how to be most effective on behalf of his constituents. Tlie friendships and the working relationships built up over the years make ' the job easier, but still challenging.”
