But as Roman Hunt cleared the final fence and eyed the finish line about a quarter of a mile off he surged forward in an effort that neither of his two challengers could match.
Drawing clear by some eight lengths, Roman Hunt won easily despite being eased in the final yapds. The winner’s time for the race was 11:35 minutes.
