ders for me. This was not standard policy and I look with shame upon my example, hoping it won’t be repeated by others.
The moment had arrived. An elegant waitress, who by the way must have approached on tiptoe (I was hardly aware of her movements), set between my tableware a plate full of plump steaming oysters and crabcakes, the very presence of which weakened me.
I’ll be frank. Neither the crabcakes nor the oysters were anything less than culinary artistry, neither were a notch lower than perfection.
Judging from taste, aroma, and color each must have been fresh catch that day, although I neglected to confirm this hunch. The oysters, delicately fried in buttermilk batter, were tender and moist on the inside. Here one wants to forgo the search for fitting adjectives and simply recall the experience. So I will pause for a moment to do just that.... ah, thank y ou.

I became rapturous.
The cake itself was shaped into a generous oval, really quite lovingly done.
The time has come to make a point. Never, I must repeat, never have I known a crabcake to contain more crab than cake. Am I understood?
Surely all of us are familiar with the disturbing search for a few shreds of crab in a crabcake. That is the norm.
Well let it be known that Brambles slices and dices the norm. On Saturday night I carried on a search for cake not crab, truly a delightful change of pace.

A correction: In the article concerning the Governor’s Awards for the Arts, Middle St. Gallery was described as being the only gallery in the area. In fact, it is the only gallery handling paintings and drawings, but it is not the only gallery. Mountain Railway Gallery, which shares the building in which Middle St. is located exhibits photographs ?md pottery, and is also unique in this area.
