If the wind is blowing down the river, as it usually does in March, try some of the feeder creeks with lots of downed timber and logs lying in the water. As always, pickerel seem to hit best on Daredevil type spoons —red and white, black and white, and black and gold. Pickerel fishing is at or near its peak of springtime activity right now at Chickahominy.
Buddy Whorton, of Rappahannock County, reports that he has been catching a few nice suckers, even with the low water conditions. Some of Buddy’s friends passed along some information on farm pond bass. They report some nice bass hitting early morning and late evening on live minnows and some minnow type plugs. We hope that rainy weekend will help to improve fishing in general.
At a hunter safety course this weekend, Fauquier Game Warden Phil Parrish announced that this fall bowhunters will be required to purchase an archery license ($10 in addition to their regular license and big game stamps). The archery license will allow the bowhunter to take up to two additional deer during bow season. Up to a total of four deer may be taken in the upcoming season — two with arch ’>ry license and two with gun — in those counties that currently allow the taking of two deer, and only one in bow season and one in gun season in those counties with a one deer limit.
