budget to make sure that all line items had been approved. Updike said that he wondered about the need to increase the professional improvement category again to cover the funds that will be needed if an employee is granted sabbatical leave.

Updike pointed out that an employee from any level could request and be granted a sabbatical and would then be paid half of his or her yearly salary. Funds would also have to be budgeted in to cover the salary for that employee’s replacement, Updike said.

“I recommend increasing that figure from $14,000 to $20,000 so that it will be there to draw from,” Updike said. The Board approved the motion.

The Board determined that all other items in the budget had been taken care of. The Board then approved the 1986-86 school budget as it had been worked out in the two sessions.

Before adjourning, Massie thanked the members of the audience and others who have voiced their opinions on the budget. “We have encouraged input, and we hope that you will support the School Board with the Board of Supervisors,” Massie said.

The Board then went into executive session to consider personnel matters. The Board’s next meeting will be on April 9.
