Fauquier Population
Tops 40,000
Fauquier County’s population has surpassed the 40,000 mark, according to state government census projections.
According to projections by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, the county’s population reached 40,365 by the end of 1984. The last U.S. Census Bureau population study indicated that in 1980 Fauquier’s population was 35,889.
Fauquier officials say they are pleased by the steady and “controlled” pace of growth the county has experienced during the past five years. They say they also are encouraged by census projections that suggest a similar rate of population growth for Fauquier into the year 1990.
The RRPDC study projects the county population will at most be 52,389 in five years. The study’s projected low for 1990 is 44,893.
