tions. “We are not changing the exterior of the building at all,” stated Miss Mary Jenkins at the meeting.
According to her the building will have just one or two employees. Questions were raised about this matter because of mounting concern in the town about parking. The owners believe that the building will have no more than three cars parked at any time.
Dr. Werner Krebser, speaking as a citizen, raised his concern that the owner had begun renovation before the permit was actually granted. Mayor Peter Kramer responded that Miss Jenkins had been informed that it was her right to complete interior renovations but that the special use permit was not guaranteed.
“She said she was willing to take that risk,” said Mr. Kramer.
Two letters of support for the permit were read at the meeting. Stating that the building would be improved, W.A. and Elizabeth Hentin urged passage of the permit. Attorney Doug Baumgardner, writing as a property owner, also expressed support for the changed use. In his letter he stated that the building would be a “benefit to the town.”
Miss Jenkins said that the permit would allow the building to “be a benefit to the town as well as to us.”
In another matter, the special use permit granted to the Krebser and Martin Partnership on November 13 was rescinded. The permit was originally issued to allow the construction of a new office building adjacent to the Rappahannock Medical Center. The unusual action taken by Town Council was mandated because the original advertisement for the permit incorrectly stated the wrong lot number.
Mrs. Barbara Wood, who has strongly opposed the building, brought the matter to the attention of the mayor recently. In response.
