They played for then-candidate Ronald Reagan when he hosted a press party at his rented Middleburg estate, for Attorney General Elliott Richardson when his daughter wed and for the Washington Post when the newspaper celebrated its 100th anniversary.
They played at the victory party for the New York Cosmos after the team took the soccer bowl.
The played for Dan Rather’s birthday party, Dominic Restaurant’s Bastille Day party and Maryland Governor Blair Lee’s farewell party.
D.J. Simpson and half the roster of the Washington Redskins turned out,' to hear them at a Halloween bash.
Who are “they?” They’re the Mystery Band and on December 28th, they’ll be making merry dance music for RAAC’s gala evening at Oasis Vineyard near Hume.
The band’s power trio - guitarist Hajppy Acosta, singer Fran Day and bai^ player Jay Sprague - have been together since 1970. Followers of the metro’s rock ’n roll scene would recognize them as the heart of the old Claude Jones Band.
In 1973, Claude Jones died. As it played its last licks, the members of the band scattered - Acosta to Rappahannock County, Day to Warrentorvand Sprague to Rixeyville where he and his wife Connie shared a rambling farm house with a loose confederation of friends.
