featured a trade show and several social functions, including dinner dances and the annual awards banquet for the year’s high-point scorers and outstanding achievers.
There were several new and special awards given at this year’s banquet. A new award for the Horse Show of the Year was given to the Keswick Horse Show and Grand Prix held in May.
The new Frances Newbill Rowe Junior Trophy, established by friends of the late Frances Rowe for a junior exhibitor showing a high quality of horsemanship and sportsmanship, was given to Courtney Lee of Gloucester. The 12-year-old rider scored more than 3,000'points during the year on her pony Swan Song to win the high point small pony hunter award too. Miss Lee is obviously following in her father Roderick’s footsteps. The elder Lee won the VHSA high score small pony award 20 years ago.
Outgoing president Jimmy Lee was presented with the Andrew M. Montgomery Award, the VHSA’s highest award, given to a person who has done the most for Virginia horse shows in the past year.
Special awards were also given to the Horseman and Horsewoman of the Year, voted by the membership of the VHSA.
