We do not hear anything about him, but there is also an innkeeper. I do not want to be too hard on him, but the scripture that stands out about him is that there is no room for Mary and Joseph at the inn.
The characters have a lot to do with the birth and with how we come to the birth.
Like the angels, are we at a place where we are ready to announce the good news to the world?
Take the shepherds — are we at a place where we can turn from all that is familiar to us and follow? With the hope that what we find is what we have yearned for, yearned to come into our lives?
Or like the wise men, whom some say were astrologers, do we come from a “far off place” knowing that we must respond and the way in which we do is to bring expensive gifts? They followed their own calling and that was a star.
Or, like the innkeeper, is our response that we do not have room yet? That there is no room in the inn of our hearts?
