The farm house was the site ot the£ Mystery Band’s first concert. No one knew exactly who would take the£ stage Halloween night in 1973 - least of all the band members themselves. There hung the mystery.
Bets were heavy that Connie Sprague would balk at stepping up to |he microphone. It was to be her debut as a performer. “I had sung in madrigals and choir but I’d never had the nerve - or the ego - to sing with a band,” she recalled.
Quiet and shy, she’d always been in the background, playing mother to the more outgoing stars of Claude Jonfes, hiding behind her camera and snapping the lens as they set fingers snapping.
“It was that $2 platinum blonde wig;” she remembered. “Nobody knew who I was. I was able to step out;of my earth mother role.” And into the spotlight with veteran Barbara Lann as a pair of flashy chanteuse.
