Reverend Steve Scoggin is minister at the Washington Baptist Church and is also a practicing Jungian-oriented therapist. We asked if he would share with the Rappahannock News some of his feelings about Christmas.
The Meaning
“There is the story of Christmas and then there is the reality of that story for the people hearing it.
I think the meaning of Christmas for an individual has a lot to do with the place in life they happen to be. The characters in the story represent a lot of the different places in life and the searching that ultimately ends up at the manger.
There are a lot of characters introduced into the Christmas drama — and it is a drama.
There are the angels who come to announce.
There are the shepherds who leave their flocks and go — which is unheard of.
There are the wise men who travel from the East.
