Last week, Wakefield’s Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball teams traveled to Charlottesville to take on the Heritage Christian School Eagles. Both Wakefield squads defeated Heritage, showing a definite turn-around in the teams’ play which it is hoped will continue.
In the junior varsity game, Heritage was the first to score and then was fouled but they were unable to connect on the foul shot. From this point on, the Wakefield Owls had almost total control of the ball, ending the game with 50 rebounds, 18 steals, and only nine turnovers in the season’s first win.
Four players, Carey Maar of Front Royal, Chris Mulligan of Woodstock, Michael King of Jeffersonton, and Jerry McDowell of Warrenton, accounted for all but eight of the team’s 49 points as the Owls coasted to a 49-28 win. Their record now stands at 1 and 3.
