A three-day meeting of state Republicans has succeeded in avoiding an open split between the party’s bitterly warring factions, but accomplished little in the way of bringing the factions together.
The meeting was held Dec. 6-8 at the Ingleside Motor Hotel near Staunton. It was billed as a party “advance" because calling it a “retreat,” the usual name for such inhouse organizational planning sessions, had a negative ring in the view of state Republican Chairman Don Huffman.
