The Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre will present the Broadway musicals “Hello, Dolly!,” “The Sound of Music,” “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Oliver!” as its 1986 season Artistic Director Harold Herman recently announced.

The season will open June 11 and run through August 3.

“I believe we have an excellent balance of theatrical productions,” Herman said. “We managed to find four favorites that are considered among the best in musical theatre.”

Based on the play “Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder, “Hello, Dolly!” features one of the most fabulous characters on the musical stage: Dolly Gallagher Levi. Music and lyrics for the show are by Jerry Herman. “Hello, Dolly!” will open the season on June 11 and run through June 22.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “The Sound of Music” will run from June 25 through July 6. The story of the Trapp family, the musical features the numbers “Do-ReMi,” “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Every Mountain.”
