But whatever his antics, Fran creats energy - energy that transforms listeners into dancers.
If Fran is the spirit of the Mystery' Band, Happy is the brains. Besides playing guitar, he drives the camper full of i istruments and amplifiers, sets up the equipment at gigs, handles booking and smooths the feathers of the ruffled mother hen all in a tizzy over her only daughter’s wedding dance.
With Jay Sprague on bass, Vince Santoro on drums and Mike Henley on keyboard, Happy lays down the driving rhythm for rock oldies or lilting swing for big band classics. “Only in our case, it’s little band.” he joked.
And there’s still mystery in the Mystery Band.
“Sometimes we’ve got horns. Sometimes we don’t. That’s part of the mystery,” Happy noted. “Former members, people who live in L.A., play with us when they’re on the East Coast. We've almost got an auxilliary band in California!” The
