Virginia localities received more than $18.6 million in Alcoholic Beverage Control Board profits during fiscal year 1985-86, plus an additional $3.4 million in revenue from wine taxes, the ABC has announced.
Rappahannock County reaped $21,274 as its share from the ABC profits, as well as an additional $4,061 in wine taxes.
Two-thirds of the board’s profits, after statutory adjustments, goes to localities and one-third is reserved for the General Fund of the Commonwealth. During FY 85-86, the General Fund received more than $17.6 million, including $6.6 million which was distributed to the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation for the treatment and rehabilitation of alcoholics.
ABC profits are used by municipalities to provide a variety of services to their citizens. The profits are distributed according to a formula based on population.
