Old-Fashioned Chicken-Bice Soup
1 (8V4 lb.) roasting chicken 8qts. water 8 peppercorns 1-2 tap. salt 1/4 boy leaf t IT. chopped parsley 4 medium carrots, chopped 1 stalk celery with leaves 1 medium onion, peeled 2 whole cloves 1/2 c. white or brown riee Rinse chicken in add water. Place in large pot with 8 quarts of water, salt, peppercorns, boy leaf, and parsley. Bring to aboil and skim to remove any foam from surface.
